Biography

Reuben Gabbard was born about 1807 in Washington, Virginia, son of Jacob Gabbard (~1760–1854) and Margaret Peggy Smith (1772–~1835).^[1]

Reuben (21) and Mary Casteel (18) were married on 6 Sep 1829 in Laurel, Kentucky, United States.^[2]

In June 1860, his brother-in-law James [& wife Elizabeth] Casteel sold property to Reuben. ^[3]

In the 20 July 1860 census Reuben (age 53) was in Jackson County, Kentucky.^[4]

In the 1870 census Ruben (age 64) was the head of household in 3 Pond Creek, Jackson, Kentucky.^[5]

Reuben passed away before 1886. On 23 Sept 1886, his heirs sold his Jackson County Property.^[6]

Daughter Catherine born about 1831, married Samuel Metcalf 4 May 1848 in Laurel Co KY [See Hiram Casttel Metcalf who married Mary Ann Gabbard, dau of Elijah Gabbard & Sarah Stephens. There is likely a family connection.]
