Biography

‘Willie’ was born in 1898, King George, Virginia. He married Mildred Matthias, daughter of Walton A. Matthias and Mary J. Fugitt, September 30th 1922. Mildred was born February 17th 1905. Willie was 23, Mildred was 15. They had at least 4 children.

He worked in the sheet metal trade for Mathy Company in Washington, D.C. and Mildred worked for Garfinkles.

Willie died March 3rd 1971, at the age of 73. He is buried in Ft.Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Maryland.

Union Notice of Death:
Garner, William M. This is to notify officers and members of the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union No. 102 of the death of Brother William (Willie) Garner, who passed away March 13. Brothers and friends may call at Lee’s Funeral Home, 4th and Massachusetts Ave. NE, after 5 p.m. Services will be held at Lee’s Funeral Home at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, March 17. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery.

Note

I have seen a fifth child attached to William's tree elsewhere but have found no proof this daughter was his and Mildred's.
