Biography

William Garrett was born February 12, 1661 in Derby, Leicestershire, England, according to the book, 1000 years of Garrett Family History. [1] WikiTree uses the Gregorian calendar which is probably why the 1662 date is used.[2] William married in 1709 in Chester County, Pennsylvania to Mary Rebecca Smith, the daughter of John Smith and Eleanor Dalby.

"In Leicestershire, the Garretts and the Wares were friends and/or neighbors. The Wares were from Ireland and there is some evidence that John Garrett, II lived for a while in Ireland before returning with the Wares to England. John Garrett married Elizabeth Ware shortly before, or after, immigrating to Virginia in about 1664. Before marrying Elizabeth he married Nannie Harrison and had a son named William Garrett who was born on February 12, 1661. Perhaps, Nannie died and baby son William came to Virginia with his father, John and step mother Elizabeth Ware in 1664. Elizabeth’s brother, Nicholas Ware and John Garrett II jointly patented land in New Kent County, VA on the north side of the Mattapony River on the head branches of the Hartequack Swamp on August 21, 1665. [3]

Willliam Garrett was present at the founding ofJamestown -------------------- Born in Harby, Leicestershire, England; married at Darby Quaker Monthly Meeting, and died in Darby Township, Chester County (now Delaware County), Pennsylvania.[4]

I'm very confused about Williams death in PA. The notes about John Garrett II 1631-1716 says this line is not the one from England, that he came from Ireland and ends up in VA and decedents in NC. These two profiles seem to conflict with each other.

Why is William the 'second'? With his son John being labeled the third (confusing with brother that is the 3rd)?

Garrett-3312 and Garrett-925 appear to represent the same person because: I created the record in error. Please use your birthdate and attach spouse to children
