The 1900 United States Census says that he was a laborer at an umbrella factory in Lancaster. At that time, manufacture of umbrellas was a major industry in that city.
The 1907-1908 R.L. Polk Directory for Lancaster says that he was, during that period, a printer.
His 1918 registration for the military draft says that he was a drill press operator at Champion Forge Company.
From 1931 until 1940, he lived at 636 Lafayette Street, Lancaster. At that time, he had many close relatives who resided nearby. 1931 and 1933 city directories describe him as a laborer. The 1940 United States Census says that he was a drill-press operator in a machine shop.
In 1959, the year of his passing, he resided at 22 East Filbert Street, Lancaster. He died at Lancaster General Hospital in the city as a result of acute lobar pneumonia. He was buried at Millersville Mennonite Cemetery, Millersville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States.
