Biography

William Arthur Gast was born on 12 Oct, in either 1877 or 1878. He was a laborer, electrician, semi-professional boxer, and he was very deeply interested in the sciences.

William and his wife Clara resided for several years at 421 Lafayette Street, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. His mother and several other relatives lived within a block of that place.

He was especially devoted to his mother; when she died, he said that he had no reason to continue his own life, and he passed away less than two months after her. The official cause of his death was double lumbar pneumonia. He was buried in Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States, on 20 Mar 1936.

His 1918 registration for the military draft says that he was stout, of medium height, with blue eyes and light hair.
