When William Gates was born on 8 Apr 1762, in Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, his father, Capt. Silas Gates, was 35 and his mother, Elizabeth Bragg, was 31. He married Jerusha Goodnow on 13 Jul 1784, in Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. They were the parents of at Mary Gates, born 27 Nov 1784. Jerusha died shortly thereaftr in December 1784 and he married second Elizabeth Howe on 20 September 1786.[1] They had five children in Marlborough. He died on 11 Jun 1848, in his hometown, at the age of 86, and was buried in Brigham Cemetery, Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.
