John was born about 1849 in Germany.^[1] He is the son of Jochim Geercke and Anna Mahnke.^[2]

John married Annie O'Reilly in 1882 in Edinburgh, Scotland and the marriage was registered in Canongate. ^[3]

John married Margaret Youngson 30 Dec 1894 in MIlton, Glasgow, Scotland.^[4]
