Biography

Nathaniel Gentry the Elder – baptized 14 Dec 1617, Great Dunmow, innholder, Kelvedon.

Married (1) about 1643, probably in Kelvedon, to "Sary" [Sarah?] [--?--];
Married (2) about 1647, probably in Kelvedon, to Mary Raven (buried 17 Jun 1669, Kelvedon);
Married (3) (widower) 2 Nov 1669, Kelvedon, to Susanna Kendall (widow).[1]

Research Notes

An earlier version of this profile listed a death date given of 22 Oct 1697. This date is too early, as evidenced by his son Simon's will,[2] in which Nathaniel is left 40s per year from Simon's estate. The death date has been changed to "after 1697".

An earlier version of this profile noted Great Dunmow as his place of death, but he had moved to Kelvedon and had been there for decades (2 Nov 1699 marriage to Susanna Kendall). Kelvedon is the more likely location of his death, but there is no certain record of his burial.

The Julian calendar[3] was in use in Great Britain during this period. Each year began on 25 March, in the spring. Dates between 1 January and 24 March in the Julian calendar are represented in the text portion of this profile with double dating notation, e.g., 11 February 1503/4. However, the same date recorded in an event date field in this profile is recorded as 11 February 1504. This ensures that date mathematics works correctly. For reference, this example date on the Gregorian[4] calendar is 21 February 1504. Julian dates are not converted to Gregorian on this profile.
