Biography
Peter was born in 1829 in Germany. He passed away in 1925. He and wife Lizzie had 9 children. They settled in Mascoutah, Illinois, and had moved to St. Louis, Missouri, by 1869. He worked successively as a teamster, butcher, and storekeeper in the large German-American community in St. Louis. After 1900 his children dropped the "s" in the last name and became known as Gerhard.
