Biography

Jonas is thought to be the son of Derrick ("Dirck") Garretson and his wife Mary, who were recorded in the town of Westchester, New York, in 1692 and 1703. [1]

Jonas Gerretson and Kornelia De Groodt married in Tappan, New York, on 13 October 1708. The record of their betrothal and marriage indicates that Jonas was born in "New Sijester,"[2] which might refer to Westchester.

Jonas Gerretse and his sister Maria Gerretse were baptized as adults (both were described as "aged person") at Tappan on 28 June 1709.[3][4] On the following day, 29 June, the baptism of Maerbil, child of Jonas Gerretse and Cornelia De Groodt, was recorded at Tappan. The witnesses were Jeremiach Cenneff jr and Mari Gerretse;[5] the latter presumably was the sister of Jonas who had been baptized the previous day.

He married (2) MARY GETTESON Abt. 1680. She was born 1642. Not sure when the name was changed from Gerritszen to Garrison but may have happened when Marvin (Marvel) Garrison Sr. emigrated to Canada in 1784 and took up residence in Adolphustown, Ontario, near Napanee, Ontario [8]

I have a Lea Gerritsen Gerritsen-411 who married Abraham Orser 1 November 1740 in Tarrytown, Westchester, New York Colony. I can't add her to her parents, so hopefully someone will be able to. Thank you.

You didn't explain (not here in this note and not in Lea's profile) that you think Lea is this man's daughter, and you did not indicate why you think that, so it took some research effort on my part to figure out what you were asking and to find evidence that your Lea is thought to belong to this family. I found that Pat Wardell identified Lea as a child of this man, so I will connect her.

Wardell named Lea's husband as Abraham Aarse (Aarse is a different spelling of Orser), so Aarse is a name you should be on the lookout for when researching your family.

Normally I add the sources myself without a problem, but for some reason I had them on his profile but not hers. This is actually not my family, but a part of the Ray One Name Project I'm working on as her granddaughter, Leah Orser, married a Roswell Ray. Thank you for your help!

Thanks for generously contributing to that project, Darrell!

I am disconnecting Dirck Gerritsz Van Dien and Geertje Hendricks as this man's parents. When that man died in 1686 he was survived by only one son, who wasn't Jonas. This man's father was a different Dirk/Derrick Gerretson.

Gerretson-2 and Garrison-2342 appear to represent the same person because: same name, parents and spouse. All of them have duplicate profiles. Please merge parents first.
