Jonas is thought to be the son of Derrick ("Dirck") Garretson and his wife Mary, who were recorded in the town of Westchester, New York, in 1692 and 1703. [1]
Jonas Gerretson and Kornelia De Groodt married in Tappan, New York, on 13 October 1708. The record of their betrothal and marriage indicates that Jonas was born in "New Sijester,"[2] which might refer to Westchester.
Jonas Gerretse and his sister Maria Gerretse were baptized as adults (both were described as "aged person") at Tappan on 28 June 1709.[3][4] On the following day, 29 June, the baptism of Maerbil, child of Jonas Gerretse and Cornelia De Groodt, was recorded at Tappan. The witnesses were Jeremiach Cenneff jr and Mari Gerretse;[5] the latter presumably was the sister of Jonas who had been baptized the previous day.

Wardell named Lea's husband as Abraham Aarse (Aarse is a different spelling of Orser), so Aarse is a name you should be on the lookout for when researching your family.
