Silphena Gibbs, born in 1779 in Orange, North Carolina, was a daughter of John Gibbs and Mary Efland. She married Jesse Martin on October 27, 1803[1] and they had at least three children: Nicholas Gibbs Martin (1811),John Martin (1812), and Sarah Martin (1815). Their son John married Margaret Sharp, daughter of Henry and Margaret Black Sharp.
Her father Nicholas's will, dated 1810, probated 1817, lists his children as: seven daughters, Mary, Sarah, Catherine, Silphenia, Elizabeth, "Sophia's' heirs," and Barbara; sons, John, David, Jacob, George, Nicholas, and Daniel.[2]. She died in 1840, possibly in Campbell, Tennessee.[3]
