Horace L. Gilbert : The Greenville (SC) News, May 24, 1967:
Horace Leeman Gilbert, 70, of Rt. 4, Piedmont, Moonville Community, died at a Columbia hospital yesterday at 5:45 p.m. after several years of declining health and a serious illness of two months.
Born in Clayton, Ga., he was a son of the late William E. and Sally Welborn Gilbert. He lived in the Dunean and Poe Mill communities for many years, but lived at his present address 14 years. Mr. Gilbert attended the Church of God. He was a retired textile worker, and an Army veteran of World War I.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida Holmes Gilbert of the home; 2 daughters, Mrs. Ruby Nell McAlister of Greenville and Miss Annie Ruth Gilbert of the home; 5 sons, Elbert L. Gilbert of Flint, Mich., William R. Gilbert of California, Bobby Lee Gilbert of Spartanburg, Melvin D. Gilbert of Greenville, and Jack D. Gilbert of the home; a brother, James E. Gilbert of Easley; 15 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
