News article: A miner named James Giles, aged 72, who was on his way home, sat down on the railway line near Ballarat East to-night to rest. He saw the Adelaide express coming, and rose to get out of its way, but he was too late, and one of the buffers struck him on the head, knocking him over the embankment. He was soon picked up by the police, and was then alive, but he died on his way to the hospital, his skull being badly fractured. Giles leaves a grown-up family of seven, and, strangely enough, the driver of the engine of the express was his son-in-law.[4]
