This Walter Gilliam does not belong here and was not the son of Walter Devereux and Mary Grey. The Devereux family are well documented see for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Devereux,_1st_Viscount_Hereford; Cokayne, George E. The Complete Peerage, Vol. V, London: St. Catherine Press, 1910, p.329.

I don't believe the name changed I think the Giiilian family started with coming to England with William the Conqueror and changed name to Gillian. Like William the Conqueror i think their first name was Guillaume which is William in English. The 2nd century people stated having last names so they gave their selves the name Gillian. Possoble a Count. I am researching
