Luella was born in 1889. She is the daughter of Elijah Gilliland and Sarah French.
Luella Gilliland was born Oct 19, 1889 in Peabody, MA and died June 13, 1949 in Norwood. She always helped her mother Sarah very often because Sarah was not very strong. She graduated from Norwood High School in 1908 and stayed at home for the next year to help her mother. She took a special course at Simmons College for 2 years. For the next 4 years she stayed at home to help her mother taking care of 2 little sisters. She became a member of the Norwood Methodist Church on April 7, 1912. [1] In 1914 she went back to Simmons College and took a course in institutional management. In January 1916 she went to Maine to take a position as a dietician and met her future husband Charles William Gallagher. In Sept 1918 while she was working in Boston, he came to see her. He was on his way to Canada to enlist in the war. After he came back from the war, found a position, saved some money and found that his health was improving. Luella (age 31) and Charles got married in March 24, 1920 in private ceremony. They had baby daughter Marion who was born Oct 14, 1920. [2]
Perhaps she became a citizen of Canada because in 1937 she filed for naturalization again, perhaps because of a Canadian citizenship. In that application, she states the birth of her daughter Marion on October 14, 1920.[3]
