BAUMAN - Mary Elizabeth Bauman, daughter of Brother John and Sister Elizabeth Gish, was born near Roanoke, Virginia April 17, 1874. Departed this life March 26, 1946 at the home of a daughter, Bethel Case of Modesto, California aged 71 years, 11 months and 9 days. When about 8 years of age she with her parents moved to Kansas residing there about four years then coming to California in the year of 1886, living in or near Modesto for the past 37 years. She was united in marriage to Otto C. Bauman, who preceded her in death 22 years. To this union were born 11 children two of whom died during childhood. She leaves to mourn her loss three daughters, Lily Van Norman, Joye Estabrook, Bethel Case; Six sons, Ernest C., Roy O., Louis E., Arthur A., August J. and Norman P. all living in or near Modesto, California. Also thirty-one grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a sister Pearl Lambert, and two brothers, Trussie, and William Gish, besides a host of friends and relatives. She united with the Church of her choice a number of years ago and has lived a faithful and consistant life until death. When health began failing she felt the need of complying with the scriptures calling for the anointing of oil in the name of the Lord.
She was a wonderful mother, ministering faithfully to the needs of her family and friends. In her sickness she was very patient waiting for the call of the Lord which came very suddenly. She had been feeling so much better and the day before was able to sit in her wheel chair in the yard enjoying the beautiful sunshine.
Funeral services were conducted by Elder C. J. Rumble and the home Brethren in the Modesto Church, after which the body was laid to rest in the Wood Colony Cemetery by the side of her companion there, to await the resurrection.
