Biography

Abraham was born after 1660. His parentage is unknown, There is no evidence that he was a son of Richard and Phoebe (Hawes) Goad/Gourd/Gorde who settled in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and such a parentage would be highly unlikely.

Marriage

He married Catherine Williams in Virginia about 1693.[1]

  • From Pamela Pantoja: Abraham Goad was in Lancaster Co, VA by 1682 (later named Richmond Co). He became a planter in Richmond Co., VA and owned several tracts of land, some of which he may have acquired from his Mother-in-law, Rvr. Some information from WFT Vol 3, #6083.

1682 - Abraham was in Lancaster Co. VA by this date. He moved further up the Northern Neck into Richmond Co. (Formed in 1692 from Old Rappahanock Co.), where he was a Planter and owned several tracts of land.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Abraham by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Abraham:

Since there are no sources connecting Abraham to his parents, and there are no sources for either parent, should not Abraham be disconnected from said parents? Thanks!

Indeed, no information on Abraham Goad's parentage can be found. The alleged parentage often found in online trees, making him a son of Richard and Phoebe (Hawes) Goad/Gourd/Gorde of Roxbury, Massachusetts, is unsupported and I would say simply false.

I have doubts as to whether John or Richard was father of Abraham Goad, ca 1663-1734. I'm still looking for proof.

From all the sources I have found, this Abraham Goad married to Katherine Williams is the younger brother of John Goad who was born 1 Jul 1643. Their parents were Richard Goad-468 and Phoebe Hewes-177. See Richard Goad-468, I couldn't add Abraham since it would create more merging issues.
A Wikitreer has just created duplicates of Richard and Phoebe and added them as Abraham's parents, but what proof is there that Richard and Phoebe were his parents?

There are no documents that prove or connect John Goad and Anne Bennett as the parents of Abraham Goad.

Abraham Goad who married Katherine Williams was born 1670 and died 1734. According to "Goads a Frontier Family" by Kenneth Hass as well as many other sources. His first child, William was born in 1693. It is easy to get the Abraham Goad mixed since there is one in each family.

John Goad b. 1700 married twice 1st to Catherine Jennings and 2nd to Ann Isham. I come through both wives.
