Biography

Charles Alexander Goodwin was born 2 February 1840 ,Louisa, Lawrence , Kentucky to Henry Goodwin Jane Billups. He married Elizabeth Jane Vermillion in Kentucky . Charles died 3 April 1926, Anaheim, Orange, California. Charles A Goodwin's middle name, Alexander, was found on the marriage record of his daughter Elizabeth Goodwin's Elizabeth Goodwin marriage to Albert Johansen, Albert Johansen Record in my possession.

Anaheim Bulletin, Monday, April 5, 1926 Anaheim,California Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock for Charles A. Goodwin, 87, veteran of the Civil War, who died here yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Scharpegge. The services will be conducted from the Motell Undertaking parlors, Long Beach.

Mr. Goodwin was a native of Louisa, Ky., coming to California in 1906. In 1911 he purchased an orange grove on East street, Anaheim, and has lived there for the past 13 years.

The deceased served in Company I, Fifth Regiment, North Virginia Infantry, during the Civil War. (Per obituary) Actually served Enlisted in Company I, West Virginia 5th Infantry Regiment.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. William Payne and Mrs. Scharpegge of Anaheim, and Dr. Mollie F. Richardson of Los Angeles; also by three sons, Dr. J. H. Goodwin and A. G. Goodwin of Los Angeles and John H. Goodwin of Anaheim.
