Biography

Rose Gorman was born in Bacchus Marsh Victoria in 1868. Parents named on the birth index as Cath McEver and John Patrick Gorman. [1]

Newspaper Report - WIFE DESERTION " . John H. Bruni was charged under section 42 of the Marriage Act with unlawfully deserting his wife. Mr. Armstrong appeared for the complainant, and Mr Godwin for the defendant. The case, as stated by Mr Armstrong was that Bruni, who was a fruiterer and seeedman in Piper Street was married to prosecutrix on the 16th December 1858.r, 16S8. In August 1890, Mrs. Bruni left her husband without his permission and went , and jrejit to her brother in Taradale and remained 'there a week. In the meantime the prisoner sold off and cleared out. He wrote from Chiltern on the 12th of October, 1890 but gave no address. Shortly afterwards he left Chiltern and travelled about the country. Subsequently the police learned that he was living under the name of Smith at Ballarat. He was arrested there a few days ago. Rose Bruni, the prosecutrix gave evidencex^ave evidence substantially the same as the statement of counseL To Mr. Godwin:—Did not get defendant's consent to go to her brothers at Taradale Did not refuse to get her husband any breakfast in the morning before she left for Taradale. Did not stay out all night when she should have been at home.. Wasalways at home in time to get tea ready Did not take up an axe to split his skull, but he threatened to cut her throat- Did go away from her husband once before, it was through a girl. To Mr. Armstrong:—There were two, wómen at her place, and he left her, and went with them, and for that reason, she went away from him before. John Gorman, brother of Mrs. Bruni, said she had been living with him for 12 months, When the child came up it was bad with bronchitis, she then -sent a telegram to her husband, but got no reply. That was on the last day of August. John Bruni said he had been working .in different places since ho had left Kyneton. He had-been selling chemicals. He had a shooting gallery at Chiltern. He did not get a reply to his letter. Wrote to Myrniong in care of her mother, and put a pound note in. In that letter, in case she was going to have him -arrested, he did not give his address,* hut" told "her she could communicate with him through the " Miss-Missing Friends columns in the Age.. "Was if. Ballarat for eight weeks, was selling chemicals at Ballarat under the name of Smith. Maintained another besides himselfat Ballarat The Bench decided thąt a gross case of desertion and been proved and an order would be made for 12s 6d per week for the maintenance of the prosecutrix. One surety of £100 for fulfilment óf the order to be obtained. Costs agains the defendant L4, 16s, 6d. [3]

In 1893 a warrant was issue for not paying for child support since May 1892.[4]

Marriage Rosanna BRUM married Charles Daniel Buckley in Victoria in 1905. [5]

Death Died in Victoria in 1924 aged 60. Fathers name listed as Gorman on the Death index. mother not stated , nor spouse. [6]

Wills and Probate Probate granted May 1924, and Rose was widowed. Estate $400. Leaves her piano to Amelia Lily (Bruni) Aitken (1900-1977), the house to Elizabeth Bruni (1896-) to look after and maintain (Elizabeth is also executix of the Will). and the house is to go to Frederick Horatio Buckley (1910-1981) when he turns 21 and "comes of age'.
