Biography

Jane was born in 1756. Jane was the child of James Gould and Susannah Pinder.[1][2] Jane passed away in 1830.

There is a Deed of Gift dated August 17th 1809 in which Jane HIggs, Widow of Harbour Island gifted a Negro Girl called Phillida to her grandsons George and Joseph Saunders for their 'better maintenance and preferment'. The document was witnessed by Samuel Higgs.

Jane's name appears on the 1822 Slave Registration at Harbour Island, Bahamas. "Return of Seventeen Slaves the property of Jane Higgs of the island of Harbour Island the First day of January 1822."


Jane Higgs' will is dated Jul 7, 1830; proved Apr 14, 1831, Nassau, Bahamas.
