Biography

Smile
Oh what a happy thought it can be
To give more than you receive
Oh what a pleasant feeling it is,
When you smile more than you frown.
To all your friends and strangers around the town.
If you continue to smile more than you frown,
It can double the happiness in your crown.
So start it early and keep it up
Until old Father Time catches up!

Noel Gould and the CCC

During the great depression, Noel Gould was a young, unemployed man in his early twenties. One of the first things that Franklin D. Roosevelt did after he become president in 1933, was to create the Civilian Conservation Corp or the CCC. The CCC was created for boys who had finished school, but couldn't find work.

Noel related two jobs that he had after joining the CCC. One was planting the trees that line the original entrance to Fort Missoula in Missoula, Montana. The other was walking around in the forest, dragging white clothes along bushes. The moving white cloth was to catch the attention of ticks, so they would fall on them. The ticks were sent onto the Rocky Mountain Laboratory to use in the study of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
