Clarence Graviet was born in 1883[1]. Because the 1890 US Census for north Alabama was destroyed, we first see him in this US 1900 Census record when he is already age 17 where he lived with his parents, William Graviet (age 58), his mother Puirlee A Graviet (age 53) and three siblings, Obe (male age 20), Willie (female age 13) and Andrew J (male age 11). The family was living in the Big Creek Beat area of Limestone County, Alabama. Both parents and the children are listed as born in Alabama. His paternal grandparents are listed as born in Virginia and his maternal grandparents are listed as born in Alabama.
On 07 July 1907[2], at age 21, Clarence Gravett married Lola Turner, age 18, in Madison County, Alabama.

In the 1910 US Census, Clarence Gravit (age 26), his wife Lola and 10 month old daughter Nellie are living on a farm adjacent to Clarence's parents, William and Pairlee. Their farms are located in Monrovia, Madison County, Alabama. Clarence said that he was a farmer with a general farm that the worked for himself on land that he rents. He and Lola can read and write.
When Clarence registered for the WWI Draft[3] he listed his birth date as 23 June 1882. He gave his age as 35 years old, his occupation as "farmer" and his employment address as Harvest, Madison County, Alabama. His name is written as "Clarence Wesley Graviet". He lists his wife as Mrs Lola Graviet and his home address Harvest, Madison, Alabama. His physical description, that he was white, tall, stout, with blue eyes and light colored hair.
In the 1920 US Census[4] Clarence (age 36) and his wife Lola (age 33) were living in the Sand Springs Precinct of Limestone County, Alabama. Their household also included four daughters and a son and Clarence's sister-in-law Stella Graviet.
In the 1930 US Census[5] Clarence W Graviet (age 46) and his wife Lola (age 42) are still living in Sand Springs, Limestone County, Alabama. In their household are 8 children: 5 daughters including the oldest, Nellie, at age 20, and 3 sons with the youngest, Lester, at age 3 years.
Clarence passed away in 1936[6] in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama. His death record lists his age as 53, his father's name as William Henry Graviet, he mother's name as Pairlee Baughes, and his wife's name as Bessie Turner Graviet.
Clarence was involved in an altercation at his home where he suffered a fatal stab wound to the back, passing away shortly after midnight on the morning of 12 October 1936. [7][8] His assailant was Frank Hicks, who was later charged with first degree murder. Frank Hicks was briefly hospitalized with a fractured skull and knife wounds resulting from the fracas. [9] Frank Hicks was eventually convicted of Second Degree Murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison. [10]
He was buried in Fords Chapel Cemetery[11] in Harvest, Madison County, Alabama. Clarence rests beside his wife Bessie Lola (Turner) Graviet who died in 1958; they have a shared tombstone.
