Biography

Edward Grayham [Graham] was born about 1757 (estimated), probably in Glasgow Scotland but possibly in England. The birth and christening record of his eldest daughter Margaret, at the "Lying-in" Hospital in London, says that Edward Grayham was a linen-weaver from Glasgow, Scotland, so he had certainly lived in Glasgow and it was the place of his legal residence, or "settlement". But Edward and his wife Elizabeth were apparently part of a semi-permanent group of Scottish people who lived in southern England.

Soon after Margaret's birth, they moved (or returned) to Stonehouse, a suburb of Plymouth, Devonshire, England. There they had 7 more children christened from 1783-1798 in the Batter Street Presbyterian Church in Stonehouse (a Scottish church). It is unknown whether they returned to Scotland, or remained in England until their deaths, but their children's marriages took place in Stonehouse or Plymouth, so they apparently resided there for many years.
