Note: George and Harriett were married at Northampton Register Office in 1881 and at the time both were living in Kingsthorpe which is a mile or so north of the city centre. They continued to live there for around 10 years. They had probably moved to the town to find work. Harriett took advantage of the booming shoe industry there and was a 'machine shoe closer'. They lived at 14 Harding Terrace in 1891 and by then had produced three children – Lucy, Harry and Alma. By 1901 they had moved via Northampton, where Miriam was born, into Leicester (36 Muriel Road) where they had their last child Frank. The family later moved to 15 Minehead Street. Frank later joined the army and married a lady called Ethel. Frank and Ethel lived with George and Harriett although Frank was often away on military duty. George died in 1929 age 69.

Physical Description
Physical Description: Small man with curly hair. Loved his beer!
Note
Note: George was born on Nov 8th 1859 at 'Tuckerhouse', Appledore, Kent. His parents were Henry and Mary Green (nee Sims) and George was the third of two sisters and five brothers. He was a short man with curly hair and was known as 'Curly Green'. He became a bricklayer by trade, and I presume his skills were in demand as it was around this time that many cities were expanding and thousands of new houses were being built. I wonder how much of George's work is still there in the walls of terraced houses. It must have been thirsty work, as Miriam says that he 'liked his beer'! I was also told that he was a 'street preacher' but Miriam never mentioned this. George left the rest of his family in Appledore and ended up in Northamptonshire (possibly to find work) where he met his wife to be Harriett Grantham Judge.
Someone mentioned that George was in the Orkney Islands as a soldier - but this might have been Frank Green his son.
I cannot find a reference to George in the 1911 census.
