Biography

Caution Probably based upon the La Mance work, there are a significant number of (unsourced) family trees claiming that Martha is descended from 'older' English aristocratic/royal families. This is simply not the case by standards of sound, verifiable proof. Genealogical proof of descent requires a higher standard than a like-named association or a requoting of published stories which, on the surface are appealing, but when more closely examined do not present evidence of birth descent.

Martha Greene, daughter of John and Elizabeth, was born 19 May 1714, Warwick, Kent / Bristol county, Rhode Island, [1] Recorded with her birth are also those of her siblings at Warwick:

RESEARCH NOTES
Origins This profile had been attached to parents Greene-739 John Greene and his wife Allen-3503 Mary (Allen) Greene who are in the Rhode Island vital records as being Quakers and whose children were all born in Potowomut and Newport. The Rhode Island vital records do not record the birth of a Martha Greene to John & Mary (Allen) Greene so Martha was detached. Instead, Martha's birth record reads she is the daughter of John Greene and Elizabeth (Holmes) Greene
