Nathan Lowry Gregory was born about 1832 in Pittsylvania, Virginia to Richard D. Gregory and Elizabeth H. Pigg Gregory.

Nathan enlisted in the CSA in 1861, serving with the 38th Virginia Infantry, Company B, rank Corporal. Nathan was killed in the Civil War, but site of death is in question. The Regimental series notes that Nathan DOW from the Battle of 7 Pines on 07/02/1862. The FamilySearch profile for Nathan L Gregory shows death on July 3, 1863, the last day of the Battle of Gettysburg, and source shown in notes in that profile.
