Biography

Rebecca (Gregson) Bowers immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Rebecca Gregson was baptized at St Augustine, Watling Street, London, England, 6 January 1634,[1] died before January 1685, the daughter of Thomas Gregson and his wife, Jane _____.[2]

Immigration

By early 1637, "Mr. John Davenport, Mr. Samuel Eaton, Theophilus Eaton, and Edward Hopkins, Esquires, Mr. Thomas Gregson and many others of good character and fortunes" were organized by a group of London merchants for the purpose of establishing a commercial settlement at New England. The group arrived Boston 26 June 1637. On 30 March 1638, the group sailed from Boston and settled at Quinnipiac (present-day New Haven).[3]

Further details of the family's immigration are not known, but Thomas' wife and English born children are presumed to have accompanied him or joined him at New Haven shortly.

At New England

Rebecca married Rev. John Bowers. He was born about 1629, and died in Derby, Connecticut, 14 June 1687, son of George and Barbara Bowers. Rev. John Bowers married (2) Bridget Thompson, daughter of Anthony.[4].
