Biography

Sarah Griffin daughter of Ralph Griffin and Catherine Munson.

She married 31 July 1795 Shelby Co., KY., Allen Munson son of Eliaseph Munson and Sarah Munson of Morristown, Morris Co., NJ. and Rowan Co., NC. (now Davie Co.)

In 1795 in Shelby Co., KY., there was Ralph Griffin, Benjamin Van Cleave m. Ruth Munson,(sister of Eliaseph Munson) and Allen Munson in the area.

Allen and Sarah Griffin Munson had the following children: 1. Son name unknown 2. Gashum L. Munson m. Jane Smith, 3. "Sally" Sarah Munson m. James M. Smith 4. Griffin D. Munson (Griffon D. Monson) m. "Polly Mary McKenny-McKenney 5. David K. Munson: 1/w Polly Smith, 2/w Rebecca A. Montieth, 3/w Mary E. Smyser, Randolph 6. Catherine Munson m. Lorenzo D. Johnson, 7. Darcas Munson m. William H. Porter, 8. Emesine "Emily" Munson m. Henry James.

It is possible that Sarah Griffin Munson could have died in Scott Co., KY., Eagle Creek or Turkeyfoot area depending on when Allen Munson left Scott Co., KY., for Brandywine Twp., Hancock Co., IN.

Sarah Griffin Munson died around 1833. In 1838 Ralph Griffin's will it names her as a Deceased daughter.

Allen Munson possibly had a daughter Jemima Munson b. KY/Indiana by 2nd wife Mrs Sarah (?)Smith, Munson b. 8 Feb. 1783 Maryland died 28 Dec. 1862 Brandywine Twp., Hancock Co., IN., buried in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. On two Census's they had boy Theodore S. Smith living with them in Hancock Co., Indiana and Fayette Co., IN. He was probably a grandson of 2/wife Sarah (?)(Smith?). I believe 2/w Mrs. Sarah ? Smith might have been mother-in-law of Allen Munson's son Gashum L. Munson who married Jane Smith.

Research Notes

Do not mistake the 2/wife Sarah Munson buried in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery for first wife Sarah Griffin Munson.
