Biography

Elizabeth was a Friend (Quaker)

Elizabeth Griffith, daughter of Benoni and Catherine, was born 6d 7m [September] 1720 at Chester County, Pennsylvania.[1]

At a Goshen Quaker Meeting in Chester County, PA, on 18d 8m [October] 1742, Uriah White, son of Nicholas White, and Elizabeth Griffith, daughter of Benoni Griffith, made their intention to marry known.[2][3] On 15d 9m [November] 1742, they appeared a second time.[4][5] By 20d 10m [December] 1742, Uriah White and Elizabeth Griffith were married.[6]

Elizabeth White is called Benoni Griffith's daughter in his will dated 5 March 1759.[7]

Uriah White is mentioned in the will of his brother, Thomas White of Willistown, Chester, PA on 27d 7m 1784. Uriah's children are named as Thomas, Samuel, Jesse, David, Israel, and Rachel. [8]

Elizabeth, the wife of Uriah White, was still alive in 1771 when she was disowned by the Quakers for committing fraud, and being noted to have removed to a distant part of the county. Her children appear to have had some turbulent times in the following entries.[9]
