Biography

Leoluca Grizzaffi is born 2 October 1860 in his parents' home in via S. Rocco, Corleone. His birth is reported by the midwife, Francesca Paola De Luca, age 56. His mother is Biagia Quaglino, age 40. His father is Giovanni Grizzaffi, age 51, borgese (middle class).

He is baptized the same day as Leonemlucam. His godparents are Leoluca Cascio and Maria di Palermo, a married couple. His parents also stand as godparents to one of Leoluca and Maria's children.

Leoluca marries Maria Terranova on 27 October 1890 in Corleone. It is the first marriage for either of them. They have at least three children: Biagia (1891), Giovanna (1896), and Maria (1899).

Biagia is born 26 December 1891 and baptized seven days later, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Vincenzo Terranova and Vita, his sister.[1]

Giovanna is born 21 June 1896 and baptized five days later. Her godparents are Biagio and Vita Terranova, brother and sister.

Maria is born 30 January and baptized 7 February 1899. Her godparents are Vincenzo Caruso and Rosa Liggio, a married couple.[2]

Leoluca immigrates in 1903 with his daughter, Biagia, when she is eleven years old. He is a laborer, joining his nephew Giocchino Crescimanno, at 1460 1st (Ave is most likely) in New York. Traveling with them are two of his sister Angela's children, Rosa, age 8, and Giovanni Cascio, age 6.[3]

Biagia marries in New York at the Chiesa del Carmine on 8 June 1913, to Salvatore Artale, son of Vincenzo Artale and Marianna Spatafora, born in Ficuzza.[1]

Leoluca, known as Louis, is still living in a 1940 US Census. It is not known when his wife immigrates, but she is also living with him at this time.

There is no further record of Giovanna or Maria.
