Re: Thomas White & sons: David, William & Thomas Posted by: Margaret Beckwith (ID *****1055) Date: July 23, 2009 at 20:00:00 In Reply to: Re: Thomas White & sons: David, William & Thomas by Carol Powell of 19729

Carol,

Thanks for your reply but the book you suggest [sic The Family Album, Dry Fork District, by Carolyn White] is frought with errors and misinformation. I spoke with Carolyn White last year at the White Reunion, as did several others, to tell her she needed to do something to correct the book!

Elizabeth Tabb is in no way connected to this Thomas White family. David White is David White and Abigail Grubb was not his nor his brothers' mother ... and on and on!

Even the lineage is incorrect. The photos were the best part of the book -- I ordered several and when I gave them to people, I had to explain that they needed to read this book with caution as not to further spread the wrong information about this Thomas White family!

Margaret

[GRUBB,ABIGAIL,RANDOLPH COUNTY,WEST VIRGINIA,b.1782,m.1800 to Thomas White, was slave of Thomas Rebecca Whitney-Smith Klamath Falls, OR USA - Saturday, April 15, 2000 at 03:52:36 (EDT) Abigail Grubb on November 04, 1800. She was a daughter of Joseph and Unknown Grubb and was born in 1782 . She was of Cherokee Indian Blood and a slave of Thomas and Rebecca Whitney-Smith of Klamath Falls, OR . Her father Joseph was a runaway slave . ]

[If you read this, it is non-sensical? a slave in Klamath Falls in the 1700s? We are re-assessing the Grubb thing altogether. It appears that the only place the name turns up is with EC Wyatt. This might be entirely true, but it isn't substant iated. There are no records at all where even David is referred to as David Grubb White?it is always David White. I like to believe that it will eventually turn out to be right. But for now, there isn't much to make it look that way.]

The Family Album, Dry Fork District, BY CAROLYN BOGGS: "Abigail was a Seneca and Delaware Indian and was a slave before becoming a bride to Thomas White on 04 Nov 1800 in Randolph County, West Virginia.

It has been stated her father's name was Joseph Grubb and he was a runaway slave and that they had a very dark complexion.

This dark feature was shown in the future generations of Thomas and Abigail's children and grandchildren as stated throughout history books of the First Settlers in West Virginia.

After Thomas died in about 1803, Abigail married Joseph Summerfield on 18 Dec. 1803 in Randolph County, West Virginia.

I just got my DNA results. It show me as 98% European and 2% Sub- Saharan African. I guess Abibail Grubb was where I got the 2%. It did not show American Indian.I was told that she was senaca, and the nelsons were Cherokee. I guess they were wrong. It is strange to me that they didn't find American Indian ,when so many of my family look like they have Indian blood.I do believe Abigail was African American.

I don't understand how it really works. I do know for a fact that all my dad's ancestors were from Germany , Holland, England, and Scotland. Most of them origanated from Norway ,and Denmark before comming to England, and Germany. My mother's mother's people were Bolinglers from Germany, and the Kittles from Germany, orginaly from Denmark. All the ancestors , I can trace back tp the 1400 sand 1500s. My mothers mother's mom grandmother was a Cherokee that married a Bolingler. My mother's father, Stawyer Summerfield had Cherokee, and Seneca, and what Abigail Grubb had for ancestors. Summerfields and the Whites came from Engkland, and the Carrs from Germany. I thinl the Lamberts were from Germany also. The Nelsons may be Indian also.I am thinking about another more accurate test for DNA, like the on on TV Who Do You Think You Are. Let me know about your dad's test.

I found a old photo of Abigail Grubb, White, Summerfield. It is on the site find a grave. There is also a photo of Thomas White. I had my DNA done. I don't show the Indian DNA, but I know Abigail was Seneca and Delaware. Her son David was not the son of Thomas White. Thomas White adopted him when he married Abigail when his wife died. Thomas White and his first wife had two sons. We don't know who David's father was, but I think he was African because of the family history of Solomon Carr the grandson of David . There is drawing of Soldier White showing his hair in the book by Carolyn White the Family Album the history of dry fork. My DNA shows 1% African. I have looked up all my ancestors on both my mother and father's side all the way back to the 1400-1600 before most came to America. David Grubb White had to be Half Indian and half African. My brother had his done and he also had the 1% African. I love all my ancestors. Look up Abigail photon find a grave or check out my post last week on my timeline Brenda cooter.I have been linked up to lots of cousins through this DNA.Family Finder DNA .

I had my DNA done at the Family Finder DNA in Houston, TX. It said I am 1% African American. Abigail Grubb, white, Summerfield's son David Grubb White had children that married into the Carr family . Solomon Carr married a Simmons and their daughter, Elizabeth Ann Carr married Thomas C Summerfield my GG grandfather, and father of my G grandfather Sampson Summerfield. Elizabeth was the daughter of Abner Carr and Elizabeth White, daughter od David White and Betsy Summerfield my GGG grandfather's sister, Thomas B Summerfield, father of my GG grandfather Thomas C Summerfield. Thomas C. Summerfield was the father of my G grandfather, Sampson Summerfield that married Sara Ann Carr .Sara Ann Carr was the daughter of Solomon Carr and Susannah Simmons. Solomon was called Black Sol. His father left because he was too dark. Solomon Carr was the son of Eli Carr and Martha Patty White. David White and Betsy Summerfield , sister of my GGG grandfather Thomas B Summerfield. Joseph Grubb, or his wife or maybe David Whites father was I have looked up all my ancestors on both sides of my family , both mother and father's side . This is the only place where I may have African ancestors I don't know why my American Indian does not show up . I have another Indian ancestor on my mother's side about 4 generations back. I don't know why American Indian don't show up and African dose. I have been linked up with lots of cousins. I really am a mixture.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Abigail by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Abigail:

Hi, Our line is Thomas Joseph, Allegheny Tom, Arch White and Henry White, my grandfather. Our DNA shows no Native American or African American blood. Henry told my father that according to Arch, David Grubb is no blood relation to the Whites. Allegheny Tom had one brother, William.

One theory is that an Elizabeth Tabb was mother of Thomas and William but I have also heard another first name. The photo circulating claiming to be Abigail is not. She died before photos.

I can find nothing in this profile that even mentions Thomas Grubb-405 as being the father of Abigail. In fact the text says she "was a daughter of Joseph and Unknown Grubb and was born in 1782." Thomas Grubb-405 did not have a daughter named Abigail and she needs to be disconnected as a child.

Abigale Grubb White Summerfield died in 1833 before photography was available for public usage. This is not a picture of Abigale Grubb White Summerfield. Read the article below on the history of photography.

Brenda Cooter, there was African through the Carr line. Abigail Grubb is not related to you! Carolyn White's book is totally wrong on its very premise. She was asked to make it right by many White family members. She sold all those books & totally misled the buyers.
