Herbert Grubb was born in June 1897 the son of Charles Grubb and Charity Smith. He was 3 years old and living with his uncle Luther Grubb in the 1900 census for Wayne County, West Virginia. [1] This may indicate his parents were dead because they are not found in the 1900 or later census.
The 1910 census shows Herbert Grubbs, age 13, resided with his grandparents William and Martha Smith in Cabell County, West Virginia.[2]
The 1918 city directory for Huntington, West Virginia shows Herbert Grubb was working as a pipe fitter and resided at 201 9th Ave W in Huntington. [3]
