Wife of Emil Jannings (1919-1921)
Wife (briefly) of Fritz Wendhausen
Actress in the silent film era, she started her career in the theater in 1913 at the age of 25. Her screen debut was in 1917, and in 1918, she starred in a movie along with Emil Jannings. The two were married in 1919, but their relationship was short lived. They divorced around 1921. It appears she also had a very brief marriage with actor-director Fritz Wendhausen, but no dates are recorded for this.
Her career continued to prosper, as she appeared in many more films through the 20's, even making the transition to "talkies". Rather than focus her talents on talking pictures, she only appeared in 3 more films in the 1930's, and did most of her acting in the theater. By World War II, she had virtually retired from acting.
She did return to acting for a few films in the 1950's, and then retired altogether. She was awarded a Bundesfilmpreis in 1968 for her legacy as an actress in the German cinema. She died in 1978 in Berlin, Germany at the age of 90.
