1615 estimated date of birth
"by 1646 ... or within a few years ... George Hadley was married to Mary Proctor ... there is no existing Hadley-Proctor marriage record, nor records of births of their children ... subsequent death and marriage records indicate a number of children were born to the Hadleys before 1654 ...[1]
"George Hadley, senior, was buried Sept 30, 1686" [2]
George Hadley's will probated November 4, 1686 and filed in the Probate Records of Suffolk County, MA , file number 1510 , mentions
wife Deborah, son Samuel Hadley, daughter Mary Page, daughter Martha Hadley, son John Hadley, son Joseph Hadley.
The will dated "this eighteenth day of September Anno Dom: One thousand six hundred & Eighty & four (18 Sept. 1684), is eleven days before his death. [3].
date of birth, parentage and birth place
"Most genealogies state George Hadley was born 9 Mar 1628 in Reydon, Suffolk, England and his parents were George HADLEY and Elizabeth SPOONER. However, the only firm documentary evidence we have about his origins is that he sold land in Ipswich in Jan 1639. [4]
"Since it is not likely that George was 11 years old when he sold land, 1628 is probably not the correct date for his birth. Since George and Elizabeth Spooner married on 24 Jun 1624 in Frostenden, Suffolk, England, it is not likely that they are his parents and their George born in 1628 must be a different person." This George was in England growing a family while George of Ipswich was doing the same in Massachusetts. [5]
The reference to Reydon is found in "Topographical dictionary of 2885 English emigrants to New England, 1620-1650" by Charles Edward Banks, edited, indexed and published by Elijah Ellsworth Brownell, publ 1937, Philadelphia, PA, page 159. Yet "... review of his manuscript collection at the Library of Congress shows no basis for this claim. [a genealogist] found that Mr. Banks mistook a marriage record of a George Hadley to Ann Jesopp “of” Reydon for a link of George to Reydon. [6]
