Sarah Haines was born in New Jersey in 1717 (Quaker date: 11 mo. 1716/7). She was the daughter of Richard Haines, Jr. and Mary Carlyle.
In 1733, Sarah married Edward Hillier, the son of John Hilliard and Martha Devonish. Sarah and Edward farmed and lived in Northampton Township, Burlington County, New Jersey on "the old homestead between Mt. Holly and Rancocas.[1]
Sarah and Edward had at least nine children who were:
Sarah outlived her husband by thirty years; Edward's will was dated and probated in the spring of 1766. Sarah died in New Jersey on November 4, 1796.
Research Notes
Per one marriage record located, the couple was married in Monmouth County, New Jersey.[3] The remaining Records only list New Jersey.[4][5][6] As far as the Monmouth County record, perhaps the bond was obtained in that location. Since it appears that Sarah was a Quaker, the marriage most likely took place at a Burlington Monthly Meeting. BJS
