From "Richard Haines and His Descendants" by John W. Haines, Volume II, p.77: "Nathan Haines* of Jefferson Co., Va., now W.Va. b. Frederick Co., Va., 7 mo. 14, 1754; d. 8 mo. 29, 1824; m. Bullskin MH 4 mo. 30, 1776 Mary McPherson, b. 3 mo. 18, 1757; d. 3 mo. 9, 1815; daughter of Daniel and Mary (Richardson) McPherson. In the court house at Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., W.Va., is an article of agreement between Nathan Haines and John Augustine Washington in which they agree not to argue about the boundaries of their properties. Each posted a 300 pound bond. While a resident of Berkeley County he performed non-military service during the Revolutionary War. He had a merchant mill and a saw mill on the Bullskin Creek, Jefferson County. His will was dated 30 Jan. 1818 and was probated 25 Oct. 1824.
