Research Notes
Vital Statistics
Birth
The Will of his step-father William Taylor describes his brother William as under the age of 21 years, creating the impression that this Joel is over 21 years old.
If so, Joel's birth date is estimated based on him presumably being over 21 years old on 29 August 1733, (29 Aug 1733 - over 21 years old) = before 29 Aug 1712.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joel:
Is it possible that there are two Halbert families gettig mixed together here? A Joel, son of Welsh immigrant William Halbert & a Joel who's son of a William Halbert born in Essex County?
update - removed "Wales" as birth location; his mother should be Mary Unknown-586494
I think that "Wales" is in error. The profile attached as his father is showing as born in America in WikiTree. The source that calls the Joel Halbert who married Elizabeth Jones "a Welsh immigrant" was written for the consumption of family members, published in 1928, which was the tail end of "vanity" genealogies that made leaps of logic in building family trees.<ref name=Acker>A brief history of the Acker--Halbert family : composed of biographical sketches and descent diagrams by E.D. Acker (1928), pages 90-91 of 179 in FamilySearch copy.</ref>
"Halbert, Joel, the father of William Halbert, came from Wales to Virginia, about 1725. He married Elizabeth Jones who was seventh in descent from Pocahontas and was also related to the Randolphs of Virginia. He was the father of the following children..."<ref name=Acker /> - page 90
On page 13, Joel came from Wales about 1730, and he and his wife Elizabeth Jones (still descended from Pocahontas "in the seventh degre") settled in Caroline County, Virginia. Both pages 13 & 90-91 talk of their children intermarrying with Hills (page 13 calls the Hills their Virginia neighbors). Page 13 says that Joel Halbert and others "continued to live in Virginia till after the Revolution when William Halbert and his wife, Elizabeth Hill, moved to South Carolina...."
A search for Cook and Cooke finds no mention of them.
Halbert-584 and Halbert-205 appear to represent the same person because: same parents / wife... please merge (also propose/merge the duplicate profiles for the daughter Hannah). Thanks!
Halbert-584 and Halbert-205 appear to represent the same person because: intended to represent the same person - same wife/daughter
