Archibald was the eldest son and heir-apparent of George, 3rd Lord Dirletoun, had from his father the barony of Ha∣yburton in fee confirmed to him by a charter under The Great Seal in 1474. He was under age 14 and unmarried on 10th November 1477. He granted, with his father's consent, 27th July 1486, the feudal barony of Bolton, Haddingtonshire, to [his mother] Mariote, Lady Dirletoun "for her life". [1][2]
He married Helen Schaw[1][3][2] who survived him and married Andrew Stewart 1st Lord Avondale, Patrick Hume Earl of Marchmont,[3] Peter/Patrick Houston of that Ilk, and Robert Hamilton of Preston, [4][5]
He d.v.p. 28 Apr 1490 when his widow Elene Shaw was the second wife of Patrick Home of Polwarth.[1][3] it is quite possible that both George, Lord Direltoun, and his son, [this] Archibald, fell at the battle of Sauchiburn, 11 Jun 1488.[6]
He is mentioned, after death, in a charter, together with Patrick and Andrew Halyburton, his two brothers, and Elene Shaw his former spouse.[7]
This marriage produced a single child. [8] Daughter of Sir robert Bruce of Clackmannan .
