Biography

This biography is a rough draft. It was provided courtesy of great grandson Clinard Handby 2-19-14. gb

"Peter Sharp Hanby was my great-grandfather. According to a website that can be found by googling Kyser-Peck Cemetary, he was born June 24, 1848 in Abingdon, Montgomery County, Virginia (Wikipedia says that Abingdon is the County Seat of Washington County. I'm not sure if there are two Abingdons or if county lines have been changed since 1848).

He was the son of Jonathan T. Hanby (b. 9-8-1806 d. 9-27-1882) and Juliana McChesney (b. 1812 d. 1888) who were married in Washington County, Virginia in 1846. (I suspect, but cannot prove, that Jonathan T. Hanby may be the same person as Major John Thomas Hanby found on WikiTree and managed by Vicki Norman).

Peter Sharp Hanby married Elizabeth Josephine Peck in Virginia on January 9, 1877, and they moved to Texas later that year. After a brief stay in Dallas County, they settled in Heath, Rockwall County.

They had nine children: 1. Walter Peck Hanby, Oct. 22, 1877 - Mar. 26, 1946; 2. Lee Thomas Hanby, Oct. 15, 1879 - May 30, 1905; 3. Nora McChesney (Nona)Hanby July 12, 1881 - Apr. 16, 1970; 4. Augusta Leigh Hanby Boyd, June 24, 1883 - July 10, 1962; 5. Alma Vawter Hanby, December 5, 1884 - January 4, 1936; 6. Clinard Joseph Hanby Mar. 7, 1888 - Dec. 30, 1970 7. Jean Kathleen Hanby, Sept. 6, 1891 - Oct. 25, 1917; and two others whose names I can't locate at the moment.

Peter Sharp Hanby died September 28, 1891.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:
