Biography

Thomas Hancock was born in 1736 in Goochland Co VA.
The Douglas Register on pg. 206 has baptismal records of Thomas Hancoke and Mary Shoemaker.

He married Mary Shoemaker, Mar 25, 1758, Goochland Co, VA

He was a Revolutionary War soldier.

He died Dec 5, 1703, Franklin Co, VA

Franklin Co. VA Will Book 1, Page 233
"I, ThomasHancock of Franklin County, am very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory.
- To my wife Mary - all the land and stock, 1 pot, 1 dutch oven, during her life, and after her death,
- to my daughter Nancy, her bed and bedding and the black walnut chest, and also the pot and oven, after her mother's death.
- To my daughter Obedience - her bed and bedding, and the small dutch oven.
- To my son Benjamin - the half of my land, after his mother's death, it being the lower half. Also the Spring Branch, as it runs, and so across the line. Also, 1pot, 1 horse.
- To my son Stephen - the upper half of my land, after his mother's death, and 1 mare.
Executors: Benjamin Hancock Jr. and William Hancock.
Signed Jul 25, 1803 - Thomas(+his mark) Hancock.
Wit - John Knowles, Matthew Knowles, Daniel Hixon.

At Franklin County Court of Dec, 5, 1803, this will of Thomas Hancock, deceased, was proved by the oath of witnesses John and Matthew Knowles, and ordered to be recorded.And on the motion of William Hancock, one of the executors,together with Fleming Saunders, his security, entered into bond in the sum of $100, certificate is granted for obtaining a probate, liberty being reserved to the other executor when he shall think fit.
Page 238. Inventory and appraisement of the estate of Thomas Hancock, deceased.
Items mentioned include: 5 cattle, 3 beestands, 1 Bible, 1 looking glass. Total value: 67 francs 13 shillings.
