Hans and Eli migrated to Australia with their two young sons from Oslo then Hamburg on 2 November 1872 aboard the "Alardus", known as the German fever ship.[3] The journey was horrific and their youngest son died on the ship. They arrived in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia on 13 June 1873.[4]
