Herndon Haralson was born 20 January 1796 and died 20 July 1852 at Little Rock, Arkansas. He married 23 March 1843 at Pulaski, Tennessee to Sarah Ann Hollingshead who was the daughter of John and Mary Hollingshead[1] of Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. Herndon at one time lived in Ft. Buren, Arkansas, and was Agent of Indian Affairs. It has been said that his experiences were the basis of many facts given by Marquis James in his book, "Sam Houston, The Raven".[2] He was a great friend of General Houston's and was with him all through the Texas Revolution in the struggle for independence.
