Uncertain family

Adolphus Hardenbrook the progenitor of the Hardenbrook family in the United States came to New Amsterdam on the the boat named De Troux (Faith) from Texel Holland on December 23, 1660, arriving in 1661. Born in Elberfield, Westphalia, Prussia (Germany 1871) was probably called Aluf Hoddenbruch/Herenbruck which the Dutch changed from Aluf to Adolphus (first names even now are latinate, Paul is officially Paulus) and Hoddenbruch to an equivalent sounding Dutch name Hardenbroeck.

Adolph, his wife Maria Caterberg, and his 25 year old son Andries arrived in New Amsterdam joining a son, Abel, and daughter, Margrieta who where already living there. Adolph, his wife and son Abel joined the Dutch Church at New Amsterdam, Oct. 2, 1662. Adolph and his wife, "Marritje", were members of the church at Bergen, New Jersey in 1664. Adolp was appointed Magistrate in Bergman New Jeresey on Dec. 17 1663. When New Amsterdam came into possession of the English he took and oath of allegiance on Nov. 22, 1665.

According to the NYGBR article about Adolphus' European origins, Adolphus, the son of Peter Aleffs' son (Peter aus dem Herenbruck im Ksp. Remschied) and Geirdt Lucas Barss' daughter (who died of the plague in 1630), baptized his children under the name of Alloff Luckes, "Lucas" originating from his mother's "patronym".

Alloff Luckes buried his first wife, Margreidta, and an unnamed child on 05 Mar 1625.

Alloff Luckes and Merig/Maria [Caterberg] baptized at the Elberfeld Reformed Church:

  1. unnamed child, b and d. 31 Oct 1627
  2. Johannes, bc. 1629
  3. Greidtgum [being interpreted as Margriet], 18 Jun 1631

Hardenbroech-2 and Hardenbroeck-3 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. Aka Hardenbroech. Thanks!
