Ruth Harlan was born about 1787 in the Cherokee Nation, the daughter of Ka-ti and her white husband, Ellis Harlan, granddaughter of Nan-ye-hi/Nancy Ward. She married a white man named Joseph Phillips about 1806. They were the parents of eight children, Sarah, Ellis, Elizabeth, Ruth, John, Joseph, Delilah, and Martha. [1] The family removed to Indian Territory as "Old Settlers" in 1832. [2] Ruth died about 1837 in Indian Territory. [3]
