A Harman History: Henry & Esther Harman and their descendants compiled by Marie Svedahl, 1992.
P221 under father Adam's story is the following account of events concerning Charles:
"In January 1838 Upper Canada was still seething as a result of the aborted rebellion of the previous month. Suspected rebels were being arrested at every turn and one of them was Adam's oldest son. Eighteen year old Charles Harman, and his uncle Jacob Emery, were arrested near Oakville on the 13th of January, 1838 and placed in the Hamilton goal. The following are transcriptions/extractions of the documents - reports, petitions and commands that grew out of this "arrest on charge of treason."" There follows eight or more transcriptions of the documents mentioned, ranging from a report from Capt. of the Guard, I.L. Bigger at Oakville, reporting upon the arrest, to petitions from family & friends pleading for the release of Charles & Jacob.
p232, for Charles story.
Besides his problems during the 1837 Rebellion, the only documentation we have on Charles is the 1861 census where he is classed as a Labourer, and living in a one-story board shanty in Mariposa. Apparently he died within the next few years because in 1865 his widow, Rebecca remarried. Five chn. [Error only 4 sons]
