Lieutenant Benjamin Harmon served with Massachusetts Navy during the American Revolution.

Benjamin Harmon is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A050772.

Benjamin Harmon was born, July 28, 1744, at Scarborough, District of Maine, Massachusetts Bay Colony, and baptized there, 15 Oct 1752, the son of Capt. Nathaniel Harmon and Hannah Goodale; died at Machias, Maine, 18 Jul 1806, ae 56y, and buried in Marshfield, Maine. He married at Machias, 20 Nov 1777, Sarah Hill, born c1761 (from age at death), probably in that part of Biddeford later set off as Saco, the daughter of Japhet Hill and Hannah Knight, and baptized at Scarborough, 12 May 1763, with her sister, Abigail; died at Machias, 19 Apr 1824, ae 64y, and was buried with her husband at Marshfield. In his will, Benjamin mentioned his wife and all of his children (Washington County Probate 3:354). [1] [2]

Benjamin served as a Navy Officer and was a Second Lieutenant on the Navy Vessel Neshquoit, which guarded the Machias Harbor. He enlisted in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, serving with Captain Stephen Smith, under the command of Colonel Benjamin Foster. [3] [4]

Benjamin is honored for his service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as Ancestor #A050772. Application for membership in the Society has been made by the descendants of his sons, Benjamin F. Harmon, who married Lavinia Hanscom; Nathaniel Harmon, who married Lydia McAllister; Japhet Harmon, who married Betsey Getchell; Stephen Harmon, who married Miss Susanna Rideout; and of his daughter, Phebe, who married John Seavey
