"Elizabeth Rector was my Great Great Grandmother. Henry Howard Harper, her last son, for she died shortly after child birth, is my GGF. He was an author who wrote an autobiography that details his early life. My Grandmother, Hazel Harper Ide, was Henry's only daughter."

" My GGF Henry Howard Harper was born in 1871 in Midwest (Iowa?) e became a renowned author and his autobiography is titled "Bob Hardwick" copyright 1911 (republished in 1933) His daughter, Hazel Harper (Ide) was an important person in my life and I had my Grandmother until 1998, when she died at 103. I was the family historian and loved family stories...so orally from her, and according to the book "Bob Hardwick" The Harper's were from Dundee, Scotland. Benjamin was 12 years old when he arrived with his family to Vermont. I think Benjamin must have been George Washington Harper's brother. Benjamin Harper was a shool teacher, and was teaching in Virginia (Rectortown) when he fell in love with Elizabeth Rector. She was an only child, and her family did not approve of her relationship with Harper. They married and ran off together to the Midwest....Elizabeth had a son and daughter, and her last child was Henry Howard Harper b. 1871."

"Elizabeth died about 3 weeks after his birth. Harper's autobiography describes his Dad as a physically abusive man...he gave away his daughter and son to neighbors and kept Henry. As a young boy, they circled by wagon, various states in the midwest when Benjamin would sporadically teach. According to his book, Henry Howard Harper discovered that he was a Rector from Virginia, and inherited $$ as the sole survivor of that Rector line. He settled in Boston where he and 3 other learned men started the Bibliophile Society...They published rare manuscripts, all in order to preserve the Arts. Therefor, when he wrote, he could self publish. His autobiography is a very good read, and you can find the book at sites such as Abes Books and Alibris...can usually find one for around $12."
