Biography

Date of birth estimated - based on age of other relatives.

She passed away at Ipswich, Massachusetts Bay Colony 1672. She married John Proctor before they immigrated to Massachusetts about 1635. The family first settled at Ipswich and later removed to Salem. They had at least seven children: Martha, Abigail, Sarah and Hannah, and three sons: John, Joesph, and Benjamin. Her husband outlived her.[1][2]

Research Note

It has been questioned whether Martha (_____) Proctor was a sister of George Giddings, since John Proctor called him "my brother Giddings." The findings are that Martha Proctor and George Giddings could not have been siblings, half or step siblings. It is possible, though not probably that when his 1st wife died, John Proctor married as his second wife, Martha Giddings. Or also possible that John Proctor ad George Giddings had children that married. Or additionally possible that the two men were "brothers in the church" and that no other relationship existed between them.[3]

Research Note

Removed father William Harper as there is no source that connects them. Thiessen-117 16:31, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

PGM: there does not appear to be any basis for the attached father or the Harper LNAB. She is Martha ________ in the linked Anderson research and I don't think there is anything here which would supersede.

Thanks Todd. I detached her father and left research notes. Anderson calls her Martha Harper in GMV, so I left her LNAB as Harper.

After merge it appears that children John & Martha need research to determine if they need merging.

Since Martha migrated with her husband in 1635, she is eligible to be a Puritan Great Migration Project profile on WT. See source: Great Migration M-P
Harper-7689 and Harper-1007 appear to represent the same person because: same person...same birth/death/spouse
