Sept. 2021: My ALS has progressed to my hands so am learning to type and use the internet with my eyes. So, I may be slow in responding. It’s kinda tricky! Thanks for your patience.

I have lived most of my 70+ years in California (Bay Area) but have spent many many months/years exploring the East Coast, discovering and then writing up each of my family lines - all arrived before the Revolution. Following is a list of the books. From 1982-1995 they are in my maiden name, Harrell, then in my married name, Gerlack. All are heavily footnoted, with maps, etc. Really enjoyed getting to know these ancestors.

The Clabaughs - Frederick Clabaugh of Maryland in 1742 and his descendants who migrated to East Tennessee, then on to Alabama and Texas; includes a special chapter on Henry Haggard (1746-1842) frontier Baptist preacher of Virginia, East Tennessee and Alabama. 1982.

The Osbornes - An account of Thomas Osborne, who arrived in Virginia in 1619, and his descendants, who for five generations lived in Henrico (now Chesterfield) County, Virginia, then moved first to Amelia (now Prince Edward) County, Virginia, then to Charlotte County, Virginia, and later to Middle Tennessee. Related families: Jones, Worsham, Fowlkes, Robertson and Gayle. 1983.

The New England Ancestry of Oren Waters (1778-1873) of Stoughton, Massachusetts, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: Barrell, Bird, Blott, Bradford, Brock, Clarke, Colburn, Hawes, Hudson, Humphrey, Leonard, Linton, Newcomb, Priest, Smith, Talbot, Thayer, Turell, Waters, Williams, Witherill. 1988. Family Search Identifier #2798257 [Not #638946]

The Quaker Ancestry of Samuel Griscom (1787-1849) and his wife Ann Powell (1789-1860) of Salem County, New Jersey and Reading, Pennsylvania: Bacon, Blanchard, Denn, Fogg, Foxwell, Gabitas, Griscom, Hancock, Maddock, Marston, Page Powell, Shaw, Smith, Walker, and Ware. 1988.

The Harrells: Lott Harrell (est.1770s-c.1814) of North Carolina and the Mississippi Territory, his Ancestors and Descendants. Related families: Thigpen and Whitford. 1989.

The Carmichaels - Archibald Carmichael (c.1749-1830s) of Scotland and the Carolinas and his descendants who migrated to Hinds County, Mississippi. 1989.

They Arrived on Staten Island: Pierre Billiou, Hans Christopher, Arendt Prall and Peter Prall, and their families. 2009

Betty, in the light of day, your original observation seems entirely correct. I still do not know how I got confused last night. It does seem that my Martha Jones Williamson (Jones - 66910 and Martha Jones Chldress (Childress - 598) are the same person. I would be pleased and grateful if you would help me in the proper merge of these profiles in such a way that the record of my descendancy is preserved through the marriage of Martha Childress to Thomas Williamson.

Betty, Thank you for approving merger for Reps Osborne Childress, Jr. yesterday. I was in the middle of creating a new bio. using all your data plus my bio info for I did not want to loose any of our mutual work. Right in the middle a few minutes ago a Mitchell Wilcox completed the merge, and my data clicked off the screen and was not saved. I also had added more sources to make our mutual bios succinct! I read the new merger bio he completed, and of course all my work went down the drain. I now do not know what work you had completed if Mitchell saved it or not! Merger just proposed yesterday and we two do not even have time to complete our best work!! UPSETTING! I left him a message of not appreciating his interrupted merger! Sorry if some of your work was not saved. I checked, he is not a Childress descendant. OF COURSE, anyone can do anything on WikiTree, but more consideration and time should be given descendants of Childress/Osborne. THANKS for your work, Betty.

Thanks Betty, I see now that The New Jersey Historical Society published Martha Foxwell was a Smith, making John and Samuel Bacon in-laws so John and Elizabeth cousins. What a mess. I am removing my comment from John's profile to not lead anyone down that path. Thank you for adding the will link. ~Honi

Your ”Research Notes” for Thorne-28 seem to be incorrect. See my response just after your ”Research Notes”.

regarding The proposed merge of Frances Hancock (Hancock-8514) and Frances Osborne (Hancock-7711) has been rejected by Betty Gerlack.

Just wondering what your relationship is in this family, I was working with the profile managers and they seemed to agree that they are the same person, can you provide the information you have that proves that they are not the same person? Thanks

His father Reps is my ancestor as are Ed's brother Jones and Phillip [a double connection].

Ed grew up in Charlotte Co. 90 miles away from Chesterfield! How would they have met? Plus, there is no proof that father Reps married a Frances. Also there was already a profile for this Edward before this profile was created. It say Ed's mom was Rebecca Goode, which is more likely since the Goodes migrated with Osbornes.

You are correct. have searched to find it again but to no avail. Edward is also a family name also. Thanks for fixing this. Guerry

Hi Betty (Cousin),

Yes, I am interested in pursuing the Carmichael line as you identified. Do you have any sources I could use? Thanks, Dennis Gordon-7317

Hi Betty,

I added Mr Carmichael when I was working on unknowns, specifically Sally Unknown Barker Unknown-489134. I'm not related though.

Thanks, Natalie

This is all I have to go on.

If you have different information, I would love to see it.

Betty, are you sure about the changes you are making on the Massachusetts Morse profiles? I have found that there are quite a few people with the same names living in adjacent or even the same towns. And they seem to name their children the same or similar names.

Thank you for your email Betty: Your question is below...I need to know what profile you are talking about then I can answer your question. It looks like there are doubles that need merged under Thomas Osborn back in the 1600s. It is also project protected. You need to collaborate with them the profile managers.

Hi Andrea, Thanks for the welcome. Question. I have a five generations with 5 Profile Mangers. There is an issue with the first generation (1619-by1642). Since they all link back, I'd like them all in the conversation, like a group email. Is there a way I do that? Betty

Hi Betty,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a Pre-1700 Project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants.

It looks like the United States Project would be a good fit with the tag and profiles you entered. Adding the tag United_States will help you get updates about activity for that project.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)
