MISS HARRISON (HARRELSON) DIES
Miss Jewel Harrison (Harrelson), 62, member of a prominent family of the Rose Hill Community, and former resident of 2467 Carter Hill Road in Montgomery, died in a local hospital Saturday afternoon, October 19.
Miss Harrison (Harrelson), the sister of O.P. Harrison (Harrelson), of Andalusia, was an employee at Maxwell Air Force Base for twenty-one years. After receiving a medical discharge from Maxwell, Miss Harrison (Harrelson) made her home with her brother on his cattle farm at her birthplace, near Rose Hill on land that their father and mother homesteaded apparently eighty years ago.
This has been in the Harrison (Harrelson) family for more than one hundred and fifty years. Their grandparents were “Squatters” on this land when Andrew Jackson drove the Indians out of this section. When “Homesteads” were available they homesteaded the land which lies on both sides of “The Three Notch Road” that was blazed by Andrew Jackson on his march from Pensacola, Fla. to a point in Georgia.
Survivors, in addition to her brother, O.P. Harrison (Harrelson), are a sister, Mrs. Gatha Sessions, of San Francisco, Calif.; a nephew in Spokane, Wash.; and two nephews and a niece in Montgomery. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, Oct. 23, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lee Spencer officiating. Burial was in the family plot in Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Homer Garrett, Clyde Duggan, Sam Berman, Cage Wiggins, J.T. Sessions, and Wilson Sessions.
